The History of Donnington Grove
November 12 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Donnington Grove is an outstanding 18th-century house, built in the ‘Strawberry Hill’ style, just outside
Newbury. David looks at the history of the house and its occupants, including connections with Beau
Brummell and the East India Company, along with visiting literary figures, royalty and Prime Ministers.
David Peacock researches, writes and talks on the history of the Newbury area from the Stone Age to the
present day. He has written for local newspapers and gives talks to a wide range of clubs and societies, and teaches classes in local history at West Berkshire Museum. His Ph.D. for the University of Reading (2004) investigated Jack of Newbury and the Tudor cloth industry. He was the Society’s chairman from 2017 to 2025.
(The whole of the Donnington Grove Estate was placed on the market towards the end of May with an asking price of £8,000,000)
